Privacy policy

Mentum is a personal macOS app developed by Jakob Barnwell. It uses Google Tasks or Apple Reminders, whichever you choose, to display and manage your to-dos and brain dump.

Google Tasks access

With your permission, Mentum can read, create, edit, organize, complete, and delete your task lists and tasks. It requests only the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks permission. It does not request access to Gmail messages, contacts, or Google Drive files.

Apple Reminders access

If you choose Apple Reminders, Mentum asks macOS for access to your reminders. macOS grants access to all of them; Mentum reads, creates, edits, completes, and deletes reminders only in your default list and in a list named Brain dump, which it creates if it’s missing. Your reminders stay on your Mac and in iCloud, which syncs them as usual. Mentum doesn’t send them anywhere.

Storage and sharing

Task data travels directly between your Mac and Google’s API. Google stores your lists and tasks in your Google account. Mentum does not operate a separate server that receives your task data.

So the panel opens instantly and works offline, Mentum keeps a copy of your Google To do and Brain dump tasks on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Mentum. It is only sent to Google, to sync. With Apple Reminders, that folder holds only the IDs that link Mentum’s rows to your reminders, with no task text. Deleting the folder removes both.

The OAuth refresh token is stored in the macOS Keychain. Access tokens are kept in memory. Development smoke tests write local logs containing synthetic test data and task identifiers, without tokens.

Mentum does not sell your Google user data, use it for advertising, share it with data brokers, or use it to train AI models. Its use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your control

You can stop Mentum’s access at any time from your Google account connections. Removing access does not delete your tasks. You can manage or delete them in Google Tasks. To remove the local refresh token, delete Mentum’s com.mentum.google-tasks.oauth entry in Keychain Access.

You can stop Mentum’s access to Apple Reminders at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Reminders. Your reminders stay in Reminders.
