Mentum
Install Mentum
You need a MacBook with a notch, on macOS 26 or later. It takes about two minutes.
1. Copy it to Applications
In the Mentum window that opened with the .dmg, drag Mentum onto Applications. Then eject the Mentum disk in Finder’s sidebar.
2. Open it the first time
Mentum doesn’t come from the App Store, so macOS stops the first open. You only do this once per version.
- Open Applications and double-click Mentum. macOS says “Mentum” Not Opened. Click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Next to “Mentum” was blocked, click Open Anyway.
- Enter your Mac password, then click Open Anyway once more.
Mentum has no Dock or menu-bar icon. It lives in the notch: point at the notch and it opens. A “Login Item Added” notice means it will open when your Mac starts; you can turn that off in Mentum’s Settings.
3. Allow what it asks for
macOS asks the first time you use each feature, not before. Allow the ones you want.
- Google Tasks
- If you pick Google Tasks, you sign in in your browser. Google warns that it hasn’t verified the app: click Advanced, then Go to Mentum, and allow access to your tasks. Mentum asks for your tasks only.
- Keychain
- Mentum keeps your Google sign-in in your Mac’s Keychain. When macOS asks, enter your Mac password and click Always Allow. Each update asks once more.
- Reminders
- Only if you pick Apple Reminders. Click Allow Full Access.
- Microphone
- When you speak a to-do into quick capture (⌘⇧'). Click Allow. Speech is turned into text on your Mac.
- Accessibility
- To save highlighted text with ⌘⇧', and to catch to-dos you promise in messages you send. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn on Mentum. If it isn’t listed, click + and pick Mentum from Applications.
- Notes
- Only for Import from Notes. When macOS asks whether Mentum may control Notes, click Allow.
Updating
Right-click the open panel and choose Quit Mentum. Drag the new Mentum onto Applications and click Replace. Then open it as in step 2, and click Always Allow on the Keychain prompt.
If something’s off
Nothing seems to happen when you open it. That’s expected: point at the notch.
Highlighted text or message to-dos stop working after an update. In Privacy & Security → Accessibility, select Mentum, click −, then add it again with +.
macOS says Mentum is damaged. Open Terminal, paste this and press Return, then open Mentum again:
